Management Inspiration

managers inspirationIt’s most definitely possible to become a successful manager by continual, dogged hard work and 100% application – learning continually, implementing all you have learned, conscientiously doing your job in every way possible, every day.

There’s no doubt about that. It’s been proven countless times.

At Managers Need to Know, we believe in adopting all techniques which are proven to work. We know through our own experience and the experiences of other managers, that in addition to “conscientiously doing your job every day to the best of your ability”, there is another factor which figures highly in becoming a great manager. That factor is a positive attitude – a focus on and a determination to succeed.

A positive attitude is easy to have on good days but less easy to have on tough days. That’s when it’s useful to have a card or two up your sleeve.

We’ll call it “Inspiration”. It can have many names but essentially, it’s what gets you up – even on the worst morning.

A Quotation from someone famous whom you admire, can often set the right tone for the day. You can get inspirational quotes from a number of great websites and we recommend you put a favorite one on your desk top. We include “wise words” we love on most of our pages and you can page through the quotes by clicking “next quote”.

Visualisation is a well known technique used by sports people and other high achievers. You will have seen numerous TV shows and examples in sports where these techniques are clearly visible and definitely work. If you work on seeing yourself succeeding, it’s more likely to happen.

Visualisation is pretty simple to do – you picture yourself in a success situation and repeat it over and over in your mind. We’ve all done that since teenage – even if it was just standing in front of the mirror practicing how to speak and how to look on the first date with the new love of your life.

The ability to keep thoughts of success in our minds is very important to becoming a great manager. The “Principle of Attraction” is also a well known and accepted technique for formulating success thoughts. If you tell yourself over and over that you’re hopeless and you’re always making management mistakes – that’s exactly what you’ll continue to do.

Formulating positive statements to say to yourself over and over is a bit more tricky to word correctly. That is a technique to be learned – it’s well worth learning.

We particularly like 2 websites which help with positive thinking and the principle of attraction. One is what you’d expect of an inspirational site – great content, sound stuff.

You will have heard of Jack Canfield – “Chicken Soup for the Soul”. Jack Canfield’s philosophy is to “create abundance, opportunity, resources and experience in your life by always living and approaching life from your Higher Self”.

He says that if you “focus on what’s not working, guess what: You’re likely coming from a place of aggravation as your mind wraps around all that is wrong. You may even have negative thoughts like “I’m not good enough,” “It will never work,” or “Something must be wrong with me.” What this mentally does is engender more of these counter-productive feelings. And given what we know about the Law of Attraction, you attract what you are feeling. So negative experiences, people, and results will beget more negative experience, people, and results. There’s not much success in that. Every day do five specific things that take you toward your goal.”

Also have a look at Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles.

The other site we like is founded on the same serious principles plus it’s really fun!

And fun is good!

TUT’s Adventurers Club – is headed up by Mike Dooley. TUT stands for “Totally Unique Thoughts”. The Club has as it’s strap line: “Thoughts become things – choose the good ones”

The Club is a “FREE philosophical club for the adventure of life, with over 160,000 members from around the world who believe that living in the jungles of time and space, as a creation amongst our creations, is the ultimate Adventure because “thoughts become things,” dreams do come true, and all things remain forever possible!”

TUT has as it’s basis “the universal law of attraction, creative visualization tools and techniques, the power of thought, positive thinking”.

Mike Dooley says “everyone’s special, every life is meaningful, and we’re all here to learn that dreams really do come true. We also believe that ‘thoughts become thingsĀ®’ “, and that “imagination is the gift that can bring love, health, abundance and happiness into our lives”.

So, check out Jack Canfield and Mike Dooley. We think people need both – the solid and serious one and fun one for when you need a real lift (and TUT has great free e-cards).

Either or both may appeal to you and be of help on your journey to becoming a successful manager. Their philosophy is an additional means of support which is available to you in getting you to where you want to be.
