The Demographic Generations Under the Microscope

The Lost Generation born 1883-1900. This generation reached adulthood during and shortly after World War I.
They were known for the street gangs they created. They were more worldly wise at an earlier age than other generation.
They grew up experiencing or being aware of poor social conditions and there was increased immigration into the Unites States, Australia and New Zealand and to parts of Africa. People of this generation were generally independent and streetwise. After coming of age, they were alienated by a war which claimed so may lives and were bitter about the disappointing homecoming from the war. In the USA and the UK men did not return to the promised “land fit for heroes”. This was the generation of the “roaring ‘20s” which was a reaction to the post war situation. The Great Depression of 1929-1936 hit them in midlife, at the peak of their careers. They experienced both hot war and cold war. In their middle age, they paid high tax rates to support the next generation but asked for and received little for themselves.
