As a manager, one of the leading causes of mismanagement is handling people that are obviously smarter than you. It is inevitable because of two important factors. One, the human resource department will always be looking for the smartest one in the group of interviewees. And two, with the kind of technology that we have today, information is just one click away. It is easier to learn today than it was years ago. And this is good. You cannot hold these people accountable for being too smart for you. You cannot just give them coupon codes on products or online shops voucher codes. You have to be hands-on in leading your employees.

What should you do then?

Do not be intimidated by their intellect

Instead of being intimidated, you should choose to learn from them. You have to accept the fact that you can learn from these youngsters because they are more aware of new innovation and processes involved in the business. You should not hate on them. Take time to sit down with them and listen to what they have to say. You can even use the knowledge that you gain from talking to them in the way you manage the business of the company.

Show confidence

You are chosen to be the manager of the company because of your expertise and qualifications. You will be in this position for nothing. It is best to have confidence in yourself as a manager. The company trusts you. The human resource department trusts you. All you have to do is to turn that trust into something useful. Take charge of your position and nurture these young employees. Impart to them all that they can use while you are still there.

Do not micromanage

Some managers who feel inferior to their employees will tend to micromanage and fix everything up on their own. This is not only unhealthy for you but is also dangerous for the company. You only have 24 hours in a day and you clearly cannot manage the whole company on your own. You have to delegate and to give others jobs to do. Let them be what they were hired to become in the company. As a manager, all you have to do is to oversee everything and make sure that every part of the process is going smoothly.
